Beijing to Fully Promote Prefabricated Buildings in 2026 with Over 70% Green Building Materials

Introduction

In February 2026, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development issued an official policy: starting in 2026, Beijing will fully promote prefabricated buildings citywide, with green building materials accounting for no less than 70% of usage. Large public projects funded by the government will be required to prioritize green building certification.

The policy emphasizes green and low-carbon transformation via intelligent construction, prefabricated steel structures, modular buildings, and optimized energy systems. Prefabricated steel structures are highlighted for their light weight, high strength, fast construction, excellent seismic performance, and recyclability, making them the preferred solution for government and industrial projects.

Industry experts believe this policy will accelerate industrial chain upgrading in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, boost design-manufacture-installation (DMI) integration, and expand market opportunities for steel structure manufacturers.
